With the exception of some jazz instruction during high school and college, Mike is a primarily self taught musician. The contradictory nature of being self taught and later becoming an instructor begins to dissolve when the reasoning behind it is made clear… Mike had to learn the hard way and wants to make it easier for people to hone their musical craft. Arguably the most valuable skill is coming to the realization that music DOES NOT have to be difficult. The tendency for people to over-complicate and mystify oftentimes get in the way of what they really want, PROGRESS. The mantra “keep it simple, stupid” is the core of Mike’s teaching method.
